Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey And Sandra Bullock To Co-Star In Comedy

I might as well have called this blog post An Open Letter To Meryl Streep because, when all is said and done, it will be tantamount to me getting down on my knees and begging her to be a little bit more careful in future.
Universal have announced that Ms. Streep will be co-starring with Oprah Winfrey and Sandra Bullock in the next comedy to be written and directed by Michael Patrick King, the man behind the two Sex and the City movies. Here’s how they pitch it:
The film is set in and around the world of a home shopping-type network, and follows the female trio as they make their way through the maze of mania that surrounds marketing, marriages and the media.
I have to thank them for that alliteration. I was taking the film far too seriously until that came along.
Oprah is pretty selective in terms of acting roles, and has rarely taken on anything bigger than a supporting role. I’m intrigued to see how she copes with this one – it sounds like she’s going to be rather front and centre.
This film completes Meryl Streep’s hat trick of recent pictures that aren’t worth the celluloid they are printed on. I can imagine the box set now - Mamma Mia, It’s Complicated and Untitled But Frightening Michael Patrick King Marketing, Marriages and Media Mania-Maze Movie. At £7 a go it should fly right off the shelves in HMV.
Thank god for Julie, Julia and John Patrick Shanley for keeping the wheels on the Merylmobile.
