The Moth Diaries Are On Again, Cast Coming Like… Er… Moths To A Flame

Despite some significant delays, it seems like Lily Cole and Scott Speedman have remained on board Mary Harron’s upcoming creepy coming of age film, The Moth Diaries and will see it to the screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter, they’re to be joined by a pair of Sarahs, Ms. Gadon and Ms. Bolger. The story takes place at a boarding school and… well, it may or may not be a tale of vampirism. It’s certainly rather gothic and could make for some wonderful cinema if well adapted.

Mary Harron was previously the director of I Shot Andy Warhol, American Psycho and The Notorious Betty Page, as well as a new short called Sonnet For A Towncar that I’m very keen to see.

I bought and read a copy of Rachel Klein’s original Moth Diaries novel when Ginger Snaps scribe and patron saint of Canadian screenwriters, Karen Walton was given the task of adapting it some years ago. Walton’s script is no longer being used (has anybody got a copy to send me?) and according to a press release I’ve received today, the new script is by director Mary Harron herself.

Also in the same press release is news that the film has received funds from the Harold Greenberg English-Language Program’s Equity Investment Program. Sarah Bolger is Irish, Sarah Gadon is Canadian, the film is going to be both.
