Ridley Scott Wants To Speak With Gemma Arterton About His Alien Prequels

As we were just discussing, Ridley Scott is toiling away in preparation for his twin Alien prequels. Apparently, he’s coming into the casting stage because Gemma Arterton has recently revealed, when speaking to The Times (behind a paywall, see The Playlist instead) that he’s wanting her to come in and have a chat about a role.

Ridley Scott saw Alice Creed and loved it. He wants me to meet for Aliens: The Remake, or something.

It’s hard to read her tone there, but it’s probably safe to say she doesn’t know anything much about the project yet. Or perhaps I’m wrong, she does, and the film actually is going to be a remake, she’s the new Ripley and all this talk of prequels is way off the mark.

Nah – she’s gotten it wrong, or was being dismissive. But she’s splendid in Alice Creed, tremendous in Tamara Drewe (I saw it tonight, coverage is imminent) and performed my all time favourite movie wail in Prince of Persia. Yes – I prefer it to that dang Willhelm scream-meme. So I’d love to see her in the Alien pictures.

The same post reveals that she’s attached to an adaptation of Ruth Rendell’s The Keys to the Street, which had one of its earlier drafts written by Christopher Nolan, and also In With the Outlaws, a “cowboy” film to be directed by Richard E. Grant. Okay… but, you know… Alien. That’s where my heart lies.
