Test Footage From John Boorman’s Animated Wizard Of Oz, Stupid Invaders Trailer

For several years now, Point Blank and Deliverence director John Boorman has been working on a CG animated retelling of The Wizard of Oz. Here’s a video of a render test that has been carried out. I may have seen this somewhere before, but I could just be suffering from deja vu – I certainly haven’t been able to Google it up.

So, tell me – what do you think of this?

The animation strikes me as rather stiff and off-putting, but this is, after all, a render test and not an animation test.

That video and some Oz concept art images were posted by Focus On Animation. They report that Oz is just one of three features in the works at Studio Synthese, with the others being a prequel to the distressing Magic Roundabout film from 2007 and something else called Stupid Invaders.

Below, the first teaser for that one, which pretty much speaks for itself:

Thanks to Animatie for the find.
