Dead@17 Movie Loses Screenwriter, Finds Lost One
The ebb and flow of development pulls another one out into the sea: it’s away with Mike Dougherty, and in with Lost’s Javier Grillo-Marxuach for the adaptation of Josh Howard’s Dead@17 comics.
The news come from a tweet of the writer’s, noticed by Splash Page:
oh, here’s another riddle – what has two thumbs and is adapting josh howard’s “dead@17″ for the movies?
Hardcore‘s Dennis Illiadis is attached to direct, and while Vanessa Hudgens was attached to the lead role for some time, she has recently said that the film just slipped away from her and, as far as she knew, she was no longer going to be involved. She’s getting a little too old, maybe?
If you don’t know the comics, they’re about the teenager Nara Kilday who is killed, revived and now expected to defeat an evil demon. It’s sort of Buffy-ish, of course it is. At the moment, Howard is working on what he claims will be the story’s final chapter. Will the film attempt contain the arcs of all seven comics series?
The all-volumes-in-one approach worked rather well for Scott Pilgrim and The Spiderwick Chronicles. I don’t know these comics well enough to say if it’d suit here.
