See Rainn Wilson As The Crimson Bolt… And Not As The Crimson Bolt
James Gunn’s Super is another one of those superheroes-in-the-real-world films like Kick-Ass, Defendor, Special and the like. It would appear to be the most grungy and gritty of them all and despite arriving at Comic-Con looking to some like a come-lately copy, it left having wowed and impressed.
In the film, Rainn Wilson plays a cuckolded husband who adopts a superhero identity and goes out to kick off against what he sees as the undesirable elements making the world a bad place. That superhero is The Crimson Bolt. Here he is.
Gunn has also posted another image from the film in which Rainn is dressed in his civvies and Liv Tyler is in what appears to be a waitress uniform. Safe to assume she’s not MinimumWageGirl though, I think.
Ellen Page has a role too as The Crimson Bolt’s sidekick, though I can’t even imagine what they’ll be dressing her up as. The SDCC crowd got to see a little bit of Nathan Fillion as The Holy Avenger, so I’m hoping an image of him will pop up somewhere soon.
Indeed, while actual footage was screened in San Diego, Gunn has warned that it will be a long time before it turns up on the internet. What kind of world is it in which people steal videos of Paris Hilton in flagrante delicto and put them online but nobody makes the effort to break into James Gunn or Ted Hope’s trunk and stick a clip of Super out there?
