Here’s what we know now about David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With a Dragon Tattoo and its proposed sequels.
A few news stories over the last week or so have confirmed, or at least reconfirmed old rumours. The odd scrap of previously unknown info surfaced, but much of this is consolidation. I’ll be quick.
Fincher has told MTV where his film is going to be set:
Stockholm. Uppsala. In the north. You have to. What, are you going to put it in Seattle?
Anne Thompson had previously reported this, noting that the actors will be expected to put on accents.
Daniel Craig has inked a contract to star in not just Dragon Tattoo but any or all three of the Millennium films, of course depending on how many are actually filmed. We’ve known for ages that he’s been inching towards the deal, but the confirmation came from Sony in just the last day or so.
Natalie Portman told Hit Fix that she hadn’t been approached for a role in the film. So who has? Indiewire name Lea Seydoux, Emily Browning, Sophie Lowe, Sarah Snook and Rooney Mara.
That’s a French girl, three Australians and an American. Rooney Mara’s name came up some weeks ago, Seydoux was the newest on the list, added after Indiewire first published.
If Fincher really did think Yo-Landi Vi$$er was his ideal Lisbeth Salander, I can see that being a leg-up for Lea Seydoux (see picture, head of post). Of the list given here, she seems the most similar in features and attitude. My bet for most likely to get the role.
I am interested to see who will be the next Lisbeth, but I’d have to say I’m more interested to find out what “the original”, Noomi Rapace, will be doing next. She was better than the role, I think.
Sony have announced that Fincher’s film will open on December 21st, 2011. Production will therefore have to kick off before the end of the year.
