It’s On Again: Actors Taking Flying Lessons NOW For Spider-Man Musical

Julie Taymor’s Spider-Man musical Turn Off the Dark has run a rocky, rocky road so far, but it seems the final destination is in sight. Actors working on the project began their rehearsals earlier this week, with Reeve Carney, the show’s Peter Parker, already getting trained on how to look like he’s swinging around on webs. Other actors in the show are undergoing harness training too – either because Spider-Man grabs and carries them or, in what we’ve been told are some of the most ambitious and tricky parts of the production, they battle with him in the air.

Rehearsals of the acting, and indeed singing, will begin in the next couple of weeks. Jennifer Damiano will be playing Mary Jane Watson and Patrick Page has the chief villain role of Norman Osborne/The Green Goblin.

According to Playbill, the show could start previews as soon as October and open officially in November. U2 score or not, I’m very interested to see what Taymor manages to pull off here – she’s an absolute genius with stage craft, and I can’t imagine we’ll end up with anything less than spectacular.

If you don’t know why the show is called Turn Off the Dark, here’s a video explanation from Julie Taymor herself.
