Adam McKay Insists On Simon Pegg For His Film of The Boys

UPDATE: This piece was originally published on July 21st. Well, today it’s confirmed that Adam McKay will be directing The Boys. So another job for Simon then…

When he was illustrating The Boys, Darick Robertson famously modeled the comic’s character of Wee Hughie on Simon Pegg without the actor’s permission. Thankfully, Pegg was nothing if not flattered, and has even contributed an introduction to the first collected edition of the comic.

Now there’s a movie of The Boys brewing, and Adam McKay wants to direct it. If the rumours are true, the studio want him too.

If the film does happen, and it has as much chance as any, then will McKay do the right thing and offer the role of Wee Hughie to Pegg? Actually, he’s told CHUD that he’d insist on the casting. From their report:

I asked McKay if he had talked to Pegg about doing the film. He told me, “I haven’t officially signed on yet, so I haven’t had any conversations with anyone, but he’s got to do it. It has to be.”

”So if you sign on it has to be with him?” I asked.

“For sure,” McKay said.

Rich appears to have been the first person to tell Pegg about his looky-likey back in 2006. Is he going to get some kind of finder’s fee? You know – for having eyes and being able to see the obvious. I say he should. And I’ll have ten percent of that for brokering the deal, in this very paragraph.
