Wizard Launch New New York Comic Con To Coincide With Thor Movie Release

It’s fair to say that Wizard conventions have fallen out of favour with Marvel and DC a tad. As Wizards shows move from comic-focussed to multi-media focussed, and big-budget alternatives from Reed have moved in, certain publishers have been falling away.

But Wizard have now announced the Wizard World Comics Con NYC for May 6th 2011, the release date of the Thor movie, and a week before the Motor City Comic Con in Michigan but a month after rival Reed’s C2E2. And six months before the likely date of Reed’s New York Comic Con and Wizard’s Big Apple Comic Con.

Could this be a more publisher friendly choice? Local, well timed, no competing major conventions for the same weekend… certainly it seems ideal for Marvel to attend off the back of the new movie…

It’s an interesting move for Wizard certainly. And possibly a more appealing one.
