Tinkerbell Gets Own Live-Action Rom-Com, Elizabeth Banks To Star

As I tell you about Disney’s plans for a live-action rom-com revolving around the Neverland fairy, Tinkerbell, remember Enchanted and how, actually, that was a pretty nifty picture. Formulaic and ultimately inconsequential but definitely entertaining. And some people liked Splash a great deal too, and I bet this will have a lot in common with that movie too.

This new movie, Tink, is set to star Elizabeth Banks as the fluttering irritant.

What hasn’t been explicitly stated but I believe to be utterly inevitable is that Tinkerbell will come, for some reason, to contemporary America and meet a nice guy who doesn’t believe in fairies. There’s at least two big problems they’ll have to write away – Tink’s size and her apparent inability to speak. I’m betting they clip her wings too, or somehow give her the ability to hide them. They can’t have her going round like she’s out on a hen night all the way through the film.

If there’s a third act beat wherein a huge group of people applaud to bring Tink back to life, I don’t think that applause will be repeated by the audience. The old “clap to life” has been done to death.

The film’s concept, says Variety, “plays with the mischievous nature of the Tinkerbell character. It was developed by Banks with Max Handelman”, her partner at Brownstone Entertainment. Elizabeth Wright Shapiro is writing the screenplay. I’ll embed below one of her previous collaborations with Elizabeth Banks, from Funny or Die. The dialogue is most definitely not safe for work, grandma’s tea party or the Festival of Light.
