Scott Kurtz Pulls PvP Out Of Image – And Diamond

Scott Kurtz' popular strip PvP has become quite the internet phenomenon. But over the last decade, it has done rather well in print too, a mainstay Image Comics title and series of collected volumes.

However the next print collection of the strip, The Cat Is Plotting My Death won't come out through Image Comics. It won't even be distributed by Diamond. Scott Kurtz will be self publishing the book, and selling copies directly to customers from his website under the Toonhound Studios banner. He will also supply retailers directly as well.

This will have the advantage that Scott gets to keep more of the proceedings from the sale – Diamond typically take 60% of the cover price with retailers taking anywhere from 70-90% of that percentage. However being an Image title did give the book greater prominence and distribution through Diamond an international source of distribution at a price that may be hard to match for some retailers.

Kurtz puts the shift down to readers moving to online purchase and from print to digital reading. Existing books from Image will continue to stay in print from the company. But the days of the single issue are gone for PvP...
