Lightning Storm McQueen and Aviator Mater may well also have parts in the Planes movie, but we’ll apparently be seeing them first in Mater the Aviator, a Cars Toons short that is being produced by Pixar Canada for imminent release. Here’s an image from Disney Cars Toys that shows some of the sky-bound characters in action.
Back at the launch of the studio in April, the following designs of Mater-with-wings were revealed.
The short is said to be structured around a history of Aviation. Should help pave the way for the Planes feature nicely.
Another character capable of flying around the World of Cars is Mator, the UFO from the Cars Toon, UFM – Unidentified Flying Mater. They’ve got him modeled so, you never know – I’d expect at least an easter-egg appearance somewhere in the back of frame.
