What Is David MacKenzie’s In The Park? – UPDATED WITH VIDEO

The shooting on David MacKenzie‘s musical festival rom-com In the Park was completed in just five days with almost all of it filmed in the midst of the actual T in the Park music festival as it went on in Glasgow this past weekend. Very impressive turn around.

Deadline and IMDB report that the rather superb Luke Treadaway is starring in the picture, but don’t offer any more details of the principal cast. Amazingly, though, Deadline have The Rev. Al Green down for an important little role:

[T]he lead singer of an indie Scottish band… finds himself handcuffed to the vocalist of a big US rock outfit. The Reverend Al Green handcuffs them together. Love and happiness indeed. At one point, they have to perform in each other’s sets live on stage. Of course they get together in the end.

Treadaway is apparently the “indie singer,” but he’s looking quite rock-ready in this image:

That comes from the film’s fairly under-the-radar production blog. There’s not a huge amount of plot information on there, but one scene will apparently see “some of our characters crash a live stage to make an appeal to the crowd, before being hustled away by security.” If you find any more, then let me know.

Don’t assume the woman you see above is the “vocalist of the big US rock outfit” even if the way they’re standing seems like handcuffs could be in play. Instead, the following two pictures identify our other lead.

She’s one of those tip-of-my-tongue faces (so to speak). I’ll update when I remember or am told her name.

UPDATE 1: And now I have been reminded. It’s Natalia Tena, actress, Harry Potter‘s Nymphadora Tonks and member of real-life “gypsy power-pop band with strong Soul and Ska influences,” Molotov Jukebox.

In the movie, it’s looking like she’s the leader in an all-girl-group called The Dirty Pinks.

I could go on posting pictures all day, but I won’t. Go check out some others yourself if you haven’t had enough yet.

The production also has a Twitter feed, though I’d imagine updates will slow down a little now filming has wrapped. All the same, hats off to Sigma Films for making fine use of social media technology.

Already I’ve got a better feeling about this than Le Donk, and most definitely more so than 9 Songs.

UPDATE 2: There’s now a music video preview of the film, which will show you Luke Treadaway performing with The Make, his band in the movie. You’ll also get to hear his American accent…

My lord, he’s convincing. Of course the last time I saw him play a member of a band, it was one of my favourite films of that year.
