Scammer Targetting Comic Retailers Has Familiar Name

About ten years ago, there was a person who posted on comic boards going by the names of Andrew Calo or Andrew Callow amongst others, who was considered a bit of a troll.

And he hasn’t been heard from forquite  a long time. Well this time he’s back. And, according to a bunch of retailers, his behaviour is even more offensive these days.

One American retailer reports that a man going by that name tried to set up a mail order account using stolen credit cards.

He said he was unable to sign my credit authorization form because he did not have access to a printer. He refused to have anything shipped via a method which required a signature. He asked to have packages shipped first to a youth hostel in Washington state and then to a ski lodge in Whistler, BC. Oh and he said he was currently staying in Bangkok but had credit cards issued from a bank in Wales.

When challenged he demanded the retailer reimburse him for the money the man claimed to have spent calling his bank, and to send him free comics as recompense. Then threatened the retailer with legal action.

An Australian retailer reports a similar with a man of the same name.

We went through a similar experience, where we sent out the books and he claimed that he never received them, then demanded a refund… He said he was from the UK and was on holidays. He became very abusive over the phone, threatened to sic his legal team onto us if we didn’t send him the refund. Which my Online manager would have done if I didn’t stop them then do a ring around of other store on the East coast of Australia and found he had tried the same scam with them… I’m still waiting for him to sue me.

Whether this is the same man or a group using the same name, I don’t know. Still, it may be worth double checking if the name comes up.
