Scott Spiegel To Direct A Vegas-Set Hostel Part 3 – UPDATED

I was pretty well convinced that any third Hostel film a) would not be directed by Eli Roth b) would go straight to DVD and c) would relocate the main thrust of the story to the US. I don’t think I was being cynical there, just that these are all just sensible choices, if not inevitable.

Bloody Disgusting have now confirmed all of the above. They report that Hostel Part 3 will start shooting in August and “head to Vegas where a bachelor party goes horribly wrong”. Roth is producing and Michael Weiss wrote the screenplay. I hope this new chapter maintains the ferocious anger and aggressive political stance of the previous two, which remain amongst my favourite modern horror films. So unfairly maligned.

I choose to be optimistic about Part 3. I’m a long time fan of Spiegel, most particularly his shelf-stacker slasher film, Intruder. He’s got a picture called Spring Break ’83 in the can and awaiting release right now, so this is looking like a particularly fecund period for him. Screenwriter Weiss, however, has a rather distressing resume that takes in all kinds of cinema-skipping horror and fantasy fare, from Octopus to Octopus 2: River of Fear.

UPDATE: Eli Roth has tweeted the following:

Rumor Control: not producing Hostel 3, but it’s in the VERY capable hands of director Scott Spiegel & producers Mike Fleiss & Chris Briggs.
