Does Manga Not Make Money Anymore? What's Shipping From CMX Now… And What Isn't.The bestselling comics list still seems to be full of titles like Naruto, Fruits Basket, Maximum Ride, Pokemon, Vampire Night, Death Note and Bleach.

But Viz Comics has fired 40% of their staff. TokyoPop popped. And now DC's CMX imprint is to close – MegaTokyo by Fred Gallagher being the surviving title, after July.

DC won't publish any titles solicited to ship after that deat – including months worth of already solicited books, and titles released to the comics press two days ago – and presumably, in the upcoming print edition of Previews. This smacks of a very recent, sudden and brutal decision to kill the imprint dead. And not one made when those solicitations went out.

Expect retailers to be offered clearance sales shortly. Who knows, the prices may be so good that lots of new readers may suddenly get into the books… just too late.

Of course publisher like Yen Press seem to somehow be making a go of it.

Anyway, the final titles to be published by DC Comics are, officially:

Musashi #9 Vol 17 will ship 5/26 for an in store date of 6/23.
Venus Capriccio Vol 4 will ship 5/26 for an in store date of 6/23.
Two Flowers for the Dragon Vol 6 will ship 5/26 for an in store date of 6/23.
Polyphonica: Cardinal Crimson Vol 1 will ship 5/26 for an in store date of 6/23.
Stolen Hearts Vol 2 will ship 6/2 for an in store date of 6/30.
Teru Teru X Shonen Vol 7 will ship 6/2 for an in store date of 6/30.
Orfina Vol 8 will ship 6/2 for an in store date of 6/30.

But the already solicited…

NADESHIKO CLUB VOL. 1
APOTHECARIUS ARGENTUM VOL. 9
TENJHO TENGE VOL. 19 (June 9th)
DEKA KYOSHI VOL. 3 (June 16th)
A TALE OF AN UNKNOWN COUNTRY VOL. 3
RAMPAGE VOL. 2 (June 23rd)
VENUS IN LOVE VOL. 9 (June 30th)
NYANKOI! VOL. 1, MY DARLING! MISS BANCHO VOL. 2 (July 7th)
I HATE YOU MORE THAN ANYONE VOL. 10 (July 14th)
SHISSO HOLIDAY, THE BATTLE OF GENRYU: ORIGIN VOL. 3 (July 21st)
THE PHANTOM GUESTHOUSE (July 28th)
DIAMOND GIRL VOL. 2
BROKEN BLADE VOL. 4 (August 11th)
FIRE INVESTIGATOR NANASE VOL. 5
VENUS CAPRICCIO VOL. 5 (August 18th)
OH! MY BROTHER VOL. 3
CRAYON SHINCHAN VOL. 12 (August 25)
51 WAYS TO SAVE HER VOL. 1 (September 1st)
GO GO HEAVEN!! VOL. 9 (September 8th)
POLYPHONICA CARDINAL: CRIMSON VOL. 2 (September 15th)
CARVED (September 22nd)

… well they have just gone "poof!"

A number of stores will have allocated budget to such titles, especially ones that they have ordered. For them, this will not be good news at all. And will anyone want to buy Polyphonica: Cardinal Crimson Vol 1 out shortly in the knowlege that Vol 2 has already been cancelled?

This probably won't sit well with the plan to expand marketshare either. So can we expect any other big changes from DC Comics soon?
