Cover Crunching: JLA, JSA And Animal Man

It's sometimes fun to see just how tastes change across the decades. How one acceptable image becomes the most politically correct jab on the planet. Or how one bland scene would one have been interpreted as a tatseless piece of gore.

Today, the cover to the Comics Code-Approved Justice League: Rise Of The Arsenal #1 coming from DC Comics and Animal Man #51 from the Mature-Readers Vertigo comic by Brian Bolland

I remember at the time the Animal Man cover was considered quite shocking. In comparison, it looks armless.

Also The Justice Society of America #37's cover shows that it will be featuring a certain Captain Nazi and friends, The Fourth Reich.

Not that you can tell, his swastika seems to have been removed. Maybe they want it to still be distributed in Germany?
