The Dominator – The New Cancer Fighting Comic Book

The Dominator is a powerful hero who repeatedly fights and beats the furious and monstrous Megazoid.

That's the story seven year old Dominic Osorio told himself as he struggled to remain perfectly still, encased in a mask receiving radiation therapy for brain cancer. Dominic is The Dominator in the mask, and the Megazoid is his cancer.

And when Dominic told pizza restaurant manager Dave Anderson this story, he took it further, plotting out the story to see it turned into a comic book to raise money with Getz-Calandra Productions, based on Dominic's struggle. Scripted by Tony Calandra and drawn by Nate Getz, it's now a favourite amongst child patients with sales benefitting children's cancer research, and inspiring a number of events, with people dressing up as The Dominator to appear in children's wards.

The comic features a boy who dreams about a superhero named The Dominator, who not only helps save him from a fire but shows him how staying positive is the only way to fight an uphill battle. The boy then takes this message on board when the hospital catches on fire.
