Trailer For K-9, Trailer For K-9…

k9Back in the day, the BBC wasn't as precious with its copyrights as it is now, which is why Terry Nation, writer of the second Doctor Who story The Daleks, was able to claim ownership of this race of alien mutants in a whole shell. And Bob Baker, writer of the arc The Invisible Enemy, co-owns the Doctor Who robot dog K-9, although not the design rights.

Which means he has been able to do his own deal, outside the BBC, to exploit the character, with Australian production company, Park Entertainment, as long as he looks significantly different. Which he does.

K-9 has been redesined from the original suggestive-shape-of-a-dog solid state robot on hidden wheels to this CGI slick flying version with ridges and all sorts of whizzy effects. This will be the original model of K-9, who stayed on Gallifrey, and now seems to have undergone a regeneration of his own. Set in London, filmed in Australia, K-9 even features the original voice actor, John Leeson, in the  role,
